Library purchases of literature
Please send your requests to:
- printed books, e-books and papers – Radka Suchyňová, radka.suchynova@fsv.cuni.cz, Irena Prázová, irena.prazova@fsv.cuni.cz
- or use this form
Before placing a request, please run a search in the online catalogue to see if the book is already available at the Faculty.
Procedure for buying printed books:
- The library purchases books from its budget at the request of Faculty staff or students.
- The library regularly invites the heads of the institute to provide input and make recommendations on books the library should be looking to purchase.
- Arrangements can also be made directly with the institute to purchase the necessary books for the library from the institute’s funds.
- Another option is for PhD students or Faculty staff to purchase books out of their own grant funds.
- The library scans books in high demand if there are only a few copies available and they are not on sale on the book market. The scanned versions of books can only be accessed on protected computers in the library (copyright law only permits on-site access), but printouts can be ordered.
Procedure for purchasing electronic literature:
- The library will arrange for electronic papers to be purchased from paid databases if requested by staff (including internal PhD students).
- The library will arrange for e-books to be purchased under the library licence if requested by staff. E-books cost more to buy than printed books, but are available to all the university’s students online.
Purchase e-books on demand on the ProQuest Ebook Central platform (DDA)
When searching for books in the UKAŽ search engine, you can find an online link to the ProQuest Ebook Central platform: Perpetual, DDA and Subscription Titles in the section dedicated to full-text availability.
If this link shows availability for a certain number of users, it means that the title has already been purchased in the electronic version on this platform.
If the e-book has the note You can request this book from your library, it means that the e-book has not been purchased for use within UK and you can read the book for free for about 5 minutes.
If you click the link You can request this book from your library, you will see information about the given e-book.
If you are logged in as a UK user and subsequently want to get the entire e-book, click on Request and fill out the request form.
Based on the request, we will then verify in the library whether you are our user and whether the title is already available on another platform. After assessment, we will either purchase the title and make it available or reject the request. In both cases, you will be notified by email. Purchased books are then available to our registered users from home (remote access).
